Sports Medicine Fellow Focus

Published on Thursday, January 27, 2022

Dr. Rudy Napodano trained in emergency medicine at UMMC prior to beginning our sports medicine fellowship. He grew up in Rochester, NY, but has quickly acclimated to life in the South. Rudy played four years of college football at the University of Rochester where he earned all-conference honors his senior year. He has a strong interest in working with college and high school athletes. His areas of interest include musculoskeletal anatomy and ultrasound, as well as providing medical coverage at sporting events. In his free time, Rudy enjoys working out, traveling, and boating with his girlfriend Itzel. Following his fellowship training, Rudy plans to stay at UMMC and will be working in the Sports Medicine Clinic and Emergency Department.

Dr. Rob Kidnie trained in family medicine at UMMC before starting our sports medicine fellowship. Rob grew up in Toronto, Canada, where he was active in the Canadian Army. He spent 13 years as an active duty infantry officer before going to medical school. In his free time, Rob enjoys brewing beer and spending time with his wife Ally and his two kids Jack (3) and Evelyn (1). He has a strong interest in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries in athletes of all levels, with an emphasis on returning them to their pre-injury ability. Rob is the lead investigator on our research project, looking at the utility of ultrasound guidance in AC joint injections. Following his sports medicine training, Rob will be returning to the Canadian military as a medical officer where he plans to lead the expansion of sports medicine capabilities.
